Before May half term, 20 Year 7 and 8 students from Barry Comprehensive attended the Secondary School Education Day at the Hay Festival.

The students, who are either members of the Monday lunchtime Reading Club or who have excelled in the Accelerated Reader Programme, spent the day meeting authors and exploring the festival site. Continue reading

Rehearsals are in full swing for this year’s school production of Billy Elliot: The Musical.

Students are currently working on learning lines, rehearsing songs and memorising the choreography for the dance routines involved in the production.

The students are having great fun working on this production and it would be lovely to see as many people as possible in the audience during the performance week, starting Monday 10th July and finishing on Thursday 13th July.

Media Experience at Cardiff City FC

During April, Year 10 and 11 students from Barry Comprehensive School, accompanied by teachers Mr Williams and Miss Bowkett, attended a media experience day courtesy of Cardiff City FC. The match in question was a rejuvenated Cardiff City side, under the guidance of the old master Neil Warnock, against an ever improving and confident Brentford Town.

The Year 8 basketball team, this year’s Cardiff and Vale School Basketball Association U13s winners, with Mr Hutton

Barry Comprehensive School’s Year 8 basketball team arrived at the Cardiff City House of Sport in confident mood to play in the Cardiff and Vale School Basketball Association U13s final against Ysgol Gymraeg Bro Morgannwg.

The team were ready for the challenge having completed the season winning all of their matches, including defeating their opponents earlier in the season. Game on! Continue reading

During the first week of the Easter holidays 23 students from Barry Comprehensive and 20 students from Cowbridge Comprehensive joined together to visit Iceland.

The students, all studying A levels in Geology or Geography, spent six days studying the spectacular landscapes of this unique country.

Students from Barry Comprehensive received a special guest at the school last week. Chris Wilkins, the Prime Minister’s director of strategy, popped in to the school directly from Number 10 to give a talk to Year 10 pupils with an interest in politics and current affairs.

Mr Wilkins, a former Barry Comprehensive pupil himself, was appointed by Theresa May last year and was invited to the school by Vale MP Alun Cairns to discuss his inspiring journey Continue reading

At the end of another busy term, Barry Comprehensive School held the spring ‘In It to Win It’ draw with a range of fantastic prizes awarded to students for excellence in attendance, attitudes to learning and academic success.
