We are grateful to everyone who took the time to consider our proposal and would like to thank those who let us know their views. All comments were considered by the Council’s Cabinet on the 12 December 2016 who agreed to the publication of a statutory public notice on the proposal.

Max, Ellis, Oliver and Koa with ‘Somewhere Only We Know’

Students and their families joined staff and governors for Barry Comprehensive School’s annual Christmas Carol Service at St. Mary’s Church, Holton Road on Thursday 8 December 2016.

The service combined songs and music performed to the Music Department’s high standard along with readings delivered by students. The large congregation joined in enthusiastically with the traditional and modern hymns.

Throughout November, over 70 Year 6 pupils have visited Barry Comprehensive School to participate in a Science project to investigate the function and structure of the heart.

‘More Able and Talented’ pupils from Barry Island, All Saints, Romilly, Colcot, Gladstone and Holton Primary Schools have had the opportunity to look more closely at the important role of the heart in the body and the anatomy of the heart. Continue reading

Former Wales and Lions backrow Martyn Williams started the challenge

Barry Comprehensive School’s Under-14 rugby team set themselves the challenge of pedalling the distance from Barry to Barcelona to raise funds for their rugby tour to Spain.

Annette Harrison (Vale Youth Service) and colleagues with Sue Neilson (Pupil Support Coordinator), Gerard McNamara (Headteacher) and Sam, Deon, Connor and Morgan with their certificates signed by the Wales national football team.

Six students from Barry Comprehensive School met the Wales national football team recently as a reward for their work on a range of community initiatives.

The work was organised by the Vale Youth Service, Communities First and Newydd Housing Association, and saw the boys, along with students from other schools, give up their own time to benefit the wider community and improve the areas where they live. Continue reading

On 13th November – Remembrance Sunday – a number of this year’s Duke of Edinburgh group participated in a memorial walk in the Brecon Beacons along with Mr Gamble, Mr Hutton, Miss Rowe, Mr Williams and Mrs Davies.
