On behalf of my staff, I would like to welcome you to Barry Comprehensive School. We are a very successful 11-18 community school, for boys up to 16 with a co-educational sixth form. Our motto is ‘Opportunity to Succeed’, and we believe strongly in this for every child. We set very high standards, academically and socially. We want our students to become successful, confident and caring adults, able to take an active part in society, and we encourage them to have high aspirations in everything they do.
As a school we prioritise the quality of teaching and learning, and at GCSE our students’ achievements are in the top 25% of similar school schools across Wales. Our students’ behaviour is excellent, creating a calm and happy school environment. There is a wide range of curricular choice, enabling all students’ talents and creativity to be identified and nurtured. We particularly value the support of parents, recognising their key role in the learning process, and always welcome visits and feedback. Student attendance is high and is also in the top 25% of similar schools across Wales.
In addition to our normal curriculum offer, extra-curricular activities are many and varied. There are fantastic opportunities for students in the Sixth Form to visit others schools in Sri Lanka. Across the school, students have the opportunity for educational visits within Britain and residential fieldtrips to Iceland and Spain. Sports activities run across all year groups and most sports, including rugby, football, athletics and basketball.
With the proposed changes to secondary education in Barry and the move to mixed education, we are now also finalising exciting plans to welcome girls to the school and ensure the continuation of our excellent standards of education for more students. All prospective students and their parents are encouraged to look at our website and to arrange a visit to our school. This is the best way of really seeing what our school has to offer. I look forward to meeting you.
