A group of twenty year 8 students from Barry Comprehensive School recently took part in a two-day training course at St Andrews Golf Club, Barry. The purpose of the training was to prepare the boys to become ambassadors for the NHS sponsored ‘JustB’ anti- smoking campaign.
During the event, students were given in-depth information and facts about the risks of smoking, the damage it causes and why it’s not “cool” to smoke. The training involved group activities including discussion, role play and kinaesthetic games. These were designed to give the students the skills and confidence to deliver the message about the importance of choosing not to smoke to other young people.
The feedback from the trainers to Mrs Jackson was that they were “very pleased how well the boys were engaged and had a positive, mature approach to the training.” All of the students are now qualified Just B Anti-Smoking Ambassadors.
Well Done Boys!
