Members of Barry Comprehensive School’s Team Lanka were invited to the House of Commons recently.
Students were accompanied on the visit by headteacher Gerard McNamara and Team Lanka lead teacher Charlotte Bowkett, along with school governors Antonia Forte, Karen Walters and Victoria Baldwin.
The invitation was received from Sam Goonetillake, the founder of the Helplanka charity, and his local MP for Carshalton and Wallington and Help Lanka patron Tom Brake.
Whilst there, the group were given a detailed tour of the House of Commons and then attended a Help Lanka reception. Sam Goonetillake, Tom Brake and Charlotte Bowkett gave an overview of the groups charity work during their summer visit to Sri Lanka and presented on what had been achieved by BCS Team Lanka over the many years they have visited the country.
BCS Team Lanka 2017 were praised for their efforts and thanked by the Secretary of State for Wales Alun Cairns MP and Mrs Amari Wijewardene, High Commissioner for Sri Lanka in the UK. A fantastic day was had by all and both students and teachers felt very proud of their achievements.
