Keep on Running! Barry Comprehensive School students Matthew Collins (year 11) and Matthew Edwards (year 12) have been doing just that, as both students regularly train together. This year Matthew Collins has been selected to compete at the ‘Sainsbury’s 2012 School Games (Matthew Edwards was selected last year). The Sainsbury’s 2012 School Games is the pinnacle of the nationwide School Games competition for the best school-aged athletes in the UK. This year the last day of the sports events will take place in the Olympic Park and will include competition in the Olympic Stadium. It is a wonderful opportunity for school aged athletes to be part of a multi-sport event and to have an insight into competing at the highest level.
Matthew Edwards has continued to build on his success. He is representing Wales in the Home Counties International Cross Country, as well as representing Wales in the mini London Marathon (5k) on 22nd April.
Both students feel that running gives them a real focus, as well as providing a release from academic work.
We wish both young men every success and look forward to celebrating their achievements.
