Barry Comprehensive School’s Year 8 basketball team arrived at the Cardiff City House of Sport in confident mood to play in the Cardiff and Vale School Basketball Association U13s final against Ysgol Gymraeg Bro Morgannwg.

The team were ready for the challenge having completed the season winning all of their matches, including defeating their opponents earlier in the season. Game on! Barry started the match at a tremendous pace and raced into a handsome early lead, with their defensive strengths laying the foundations on which to build attacking momentum and Bro Morgannwg finding it difficult to live with the repeated assaults on their basket.

At half time Barry were almost out of sight. The third and fourth quarters were a little less frenetic and to their credit Bro Morgannwg pushed Barry hard and outscored their opponents, but the damage had been done early in the match and Barry managed to see the remaining time out, without too many nervous moments.

This is the first time that a Barry Comprehensive School team have won the Year 8 section and it is a tremendous achievement that all of the boys should be proud of.
