Barry Comprehensive School’s all-conquering Year 8 Rugby team have been preparing for the challenges of next season with an intensive training camp. The team who were recently crowned Blues champions’ were bolstered by members of the Year 7 team.
Guest coaches were brought in to offer their expertise. Former International second row Greg Prosser worked the boys on lineout play and Blues first team coach and former international scrum half Paul John put the players through a vigorous and challenging decision making session.
The real treat for the players was the session delivered by current Wales full back Rhys Patchell on back play, during which the team really showed their talent impressing Rhys with their skill levels.
Huw Bevan Head of Performance at the Dragons talked to the group about conditioning and lifestyle giving the boys an insight into professional rugby.
Coach Mr Manley said, “This was a fantastic opportunity for the players to learn from the very best. I can’t thank our guests enough for giving up their time to help the lads. When you think Rhys Patchell was playing against the All Blacks two weeks ago it is amazing that he can give the time to help us. I hope all of the players enjoyed the training camp and will become better players for the experience.”
