On March the 15th Barry Comprehensive School pupil, Rhys Powell will be attending the National Into Film Awards in Leicester Square.
Rhys wrote a review of 2001: Space Odyssey as part of our after school ‘Film Club’ and has been shortlisted for Review of the Year.
This is an outstanding achievement; Into Film received around 5000 reviews each week and Rhys has been shortlisted as top three in the UK! Ms McAllister who leads the Film Club at Barry Comprehensive School said “I am very proud of Rhys’ achievement, this is wonderful news! The boys who attend Film Club have really enjoyed engaging in lively, detailed discussions and review writing. Rhys has worked very hard and the recognition is well deserved.”
The judging panel included specialists from the education and film industry, including Oscar-winning Director Tom Hooper (Les Misérables, The King’s Speech, The Danish Girl), Aardman Animations co-founder Peter Lord (Shaun the Sheep The Movie, Chicken Run), actor Naomie Harris (Spectre, Skyfall, Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom) and director Amma Asante. The Review of the Year category will be judged by film critic Danny Leigh and announced at the awards. Mr McNamara, headteacher commented that “Rhys has been a fantastic ambassador to the younger boys in the school, we wish him the best for the red carpet”.
Well done Rhys!
