Headteacher Gerard McNamara congratulating John McAllister on his 9 A* or A grades

Barry Comprehensive School is delighted to announce that our GCSE results this year are the highest the school has ever attained, with 50% of our students achieving at least 5 A*-C grade GCSEs including English and Maths, and 87% of students achieving at least 5 A* -C grades.

Students, staff and governors have all worked tremendously hard this year to make such a considerable improvement in our academic attainment. A big factor in our success has also been the constant support of parents, who always insist on high standards for our boys and regular homework being completed to a high standard.

Of particular note are:

  • Michael Bonney, who gained all his 13 GCSEs at A* or A, including A*s in all three Sciences, French and Italian;
  • Taylor Hinchly, who secured 11 A* or A grades, including A* in both English and Maths, Geography and Geology;
  • Finnian Rees, with 10 A* or A grades, including A* in Maths, Biology and Chemistry;
  • Rhys Evans, with 9 A* or A grades including straight As in English Language, Literature, Maths, Biology, Chemistry and Physics;
  • Joshua Harris, with 9 A* or A grades including straight As in Maths, Biology, Chemistry and Physics;
  • John McAllister, with 9 A* or A grades including English Language, Maths, Core Science, Chemistry, French and Italian;
  • Austin Kay, who gained A* grades in Maths, Biology and Physics, and A grades in English Language, Core Science, Chemistry and Geology;
  • Ben Rose, with A* grades in Maths and History, and A grades in English Language, Core Science, Biology, Physics, French and Sport.

In total, 32% of students achieved at least one A* or A grade, with 15% gaining at least 3 A* or A grades. 11 students also added to their outstanding Mathematics GCSE results by gaining a prestigious qualification in Further Mathematics.

With this fantastic news we look forward to the year ahead and further improvements to celebrate. The vast majority of our students have now secured the grades they need to progress to our Sixth Form or other choices, which ensures we can all move forward together. Congratulations to all.
