After school on Monday 20 April, Mr Bartlett and five students from Barry Comprehensive went to the woods in Porthkerry Country Park to collect timber for the school’s Woodworking Club.
Using only hand tools and muscle power, the students split in half an eight foot log and used a two-man crosscut saw to reduce the length of another log so it would fit safely on the trailer.
The aim of the project is to use the timber to manufacture furniture which the park rangers can use in the lodge garden.
All the students worked really hard to complete the task and worked well as a team to manipulate the heavy logs.
The school would like to thank Country Park Ranger Mel Stewart for supporting the project.
