Geologists narrowly miss out

The Barry Comprehensive team

The Barry Comprehensive team

On Tuesday 10th March six geology students from Barry Comprehensive School travelled to take part in the Welsh final of the BGS Schools’ Geology Challenge.

As part of the event each team had to prepare a poster on this year’s topic: ‘The Greatest Geological Discoveries’. In addition to this they had to deliver a five minute presentation on the topic and then show their skills in a hand specimen test and associated quiz.

The competition was a very close one with the Barry team winning the first two rounds but just being overtaken in the final quiz round by the team from Whitchurch High School in Cardiff. The final margin of victory was just two points. The winning team will now move on to the national finals to be held at the British Geological Society in London during April. We wish them the best of luck!

Mr. Prickett would like to thank all of the team members who should be very proud of their achievements. The judges were particularly impressed with the professional presentation delivered by Kate Ashling, Gareth Hurman and Nico-Pele Wilson.
