Barry Comprehensive School was delighted to welcome concert pianist, Richard Meyrick on his return visit to the school’s Music Department in November.
Richard’s previous visits to the school left lasting impressions on his audience of music students, especially those brave enough to play for him.
During the afternoon, students from years 7 to year 11, along with sixth form students listened to Richard talk about and play music with equal passion. Students performed their set pieces and accepted the constructive criticism with dignity and a fair amount of laughter.
Those performing included Oliver Bartlett, Jason Grice and Jack Ollier from Barry Comprehensive School, and Claudia Perry, Kate Roberts, and Camille Danielson from Bryn Hafren Comprehensive School.
Year 7 student Jack Ollier is currently preparing for his Grade 6 piano examination and was the final student to play. Richard was so impressed with Jack that he offered him a scholarship to study in London as part of the Pianoman Scholarship Scheme. The scheme provides all expenses paid, free lessons with Richard at his acclaimed Piano Studio.
It was an immensely enjoyable experience for the students who watched and participated and they were able to extend their performance skills a step further under the close guidance of Richard Meyrick.
