Last term, a group of Barry Comprehensive School pupils travelled to the Welsh Urdd camp at Llangrannog in West Wales for a week of fun and challenging activities
After the long journey by bus the boys were welcomed to the Camp with a BBQ chicken lunch, before dropping their belongings at their rooms and heading off to the beach. The views from the costal path were amazing and the boys explored the caves and even braved the very cold waves for a paddle. Everyone warmed up with a game of football followed by supper and an evening of folk dancing.
The rest of the week was just as eventful with activities including orienteering, the climbing wall, trampolines, go-carts, toboggans, swimming, quad bikes, archery, dry-slope skiing and a high-ropes course. Other highlights included building a shelter in the woods in the pouring rain and meeting Dewi Pws Morris, the Welsh Children’s Poet for 2011 and singer.
It was with sad faces that everyone packed their bags on the Friday and headed home with fond memories of Llangrannog, the Welsh Camp by the sea.
Mrs Jones, Head of Welsh, was very impressed with the boys. Their standard of conduct through the week and their willingness to participate in all the activities made them excellent ambassadors for Barry Comprehensive School.
