Alun Cairns MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Wales, visited Barry Comprehensive School with Colonel Nick Beard, Chief Executive of the Reserve Forces’ & Cadets’ Association for Wales on Thursday 4 September.

Mr. Cairns, whose duties mean he is very involved with the NATO Summit at Celtic Manor, was keen to canvas the views of 6th Formers on the Summit and NATO in general.  Mr. Cairns and Col. Beard discussed NATO history with the students and together they explored the risks and rewards of potential NATO involvement in current conflicts around the world.

Headteacher Gerard McNamara said, “Everyone at Barry Comprehensive School was delighted to welcome Mr Cairns and Col. Beard.  Their discussion in the classroom illustrated the relevance of the NATO Summit and students valued the opportunity to be involved in this important event.”
