On Thursday 3 July, Jenner Park Stadium hosted the annual Barry Comprehensive School Sports Day in glorious sunshine.
Students from years 7, 8 & 9 spent the day competing in a number of athletic events varying from hurdles and sprints, middle distance jumps and throws with the tug-of-war added to encourage all students to be involved in their ‘House’ sports event.
The day proved to be a great success with keen competition between each House and year group, with eventual winners Gruffudd House.
Sixth form students were employed as part of their Welsh Baccalaureate experience to organise the tug-of-war event.
Events ran smoothly throughout the day overseen by Mr. Hutton and his recording team, whilst Mr. Manley and assistant sharpshooters Mrs. Laugharne and Miss Rowe took charge at the start, while events were orchestrated on the track and field by Mr. Williams and many other willing staff, especially Miss Walters on the ding-a-ling.
There were some fine athletic performances from boys from each year group, exemplified by James Cassidy from year 7 who broke the school 300m record that was set in 2002.
Well done to all students involved for their support and effort and to all staff who gave time to officiate the events.
