On Tuesday 18th March Barry Comprehensive hosted the regional final of the BGS Schools’ Geology Challenge. The competition was for A level Geology students from all over Wales.  As part of the event each team had to prepare a poster on this year’s topic: ‘Geology and the Future of the Welsh Economy’. In addition to this they had to deliver a five minute presentation on the topic and then show their skills in a hand specimen test and associated quiz.

The event was very well attended and the competition closely fought. In the end Gower College from Swansea came out on top, narrowly defeating the home team from Barry Comprehensive School and Whitchurch High School from Cardiff. The winning team will now move on to the national finals to be held in London during May. We wish them the best of luck!

Mr. Prickett would like to thank all of the pupils, staff and guests who made the event possible and in particular SRK Consulting (who sponsored the event) and Paul Maliphant of Mott McDonald who help to organise and MC the competition.
