On May the 1st, ten Year 7 students attended Dow Corning’s Nature Centre for a Maths Mentoring day. The boys had the opportunity to go outside in the nature area, and interact with some unique habitats and apply some of the maths skills they have been taught in school. The trip gave them hands on experience of how maths can be applied in practical ways to ‘real world’ problems, in a fun and interesting way.
Throughout the day the group identified and surveyed different types of vegetation, caught and recorded pond life and used their knowledge of perimeter to compare different objects around the site. The boys worked really well throughout the day and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Both Mr. Davies and Mrs. Insley were extremely pleased with the attitude demonstrated by all throughout the trip.
