It was January but the GCSE focus on success began early at Barry Comprehensive School as 50 students gave up their time to attend the school’s annual residential revision weekend.

A group of dedicated students and teachers stayed at the Park Inn Hotel, Cardiff for two days of intensive revision and examination preparation. Students worked on honing their general revision and study skills, along with subject specific material and examination techniques.

Mr. Lyn Howell, recently retired, led the whole weekend, inspiring students with his motivation, enthusiasm and in depth knowledge of learning to learn. Mr. Howell was well supported by a range of subject specialists, giving up their time to teach, mentor and coach our students.

At the end of the weekend, students reported feeling highly motivated and more confident about their GCSE examinations. Many of the boys were keen to thank staff and were very grateful for the support offered. The students’ behaviour and attitude over the weekend was excellent and we are very proud of them. The real focus now is applying their revision skills and knowledge, ensuring they follow Mr. Howell’s maxim to ‘Finish Strong’.
