Year 11 students at Barry Comprehensive are feeling very proud of themselves after receiving their GCSE Mathematics results from the November examinations.  Due to their hard work, and support from their teachers and parents, 62% of the year group have already secured a C grade or higher in their GCSE Mathematics qualification.

Secondary Education Advisory Board Update

Advisory Board Update BThe results of the public consultation held in 2015 on proposals to reorganise three of the secondary schools in Barry showed clearly that there is support amongst parents and other key stakeholders for both the expansion of Ysgol Bro Morgannwg and the development of mixed-sex secondary schools to replace the single sex Barry Comprehensive School and Bryn Hafren Comprehensive School. This echoed the results of a previous consultation exercise undertaken in 2013 which also showed clear support for the principle of a move to mixed schooling in Barry. Continue reading

The Duke of Edinburgh scheme is currently in its third year at Barry Comprehensive School.  After two successful cohorts with a 100% completion rate, DofE leaders took the decision to expand the number of participants so that more pupils would have the opportunity to be involved in such a valuable extra-curricular activity.  The number of boys now taking part in the DofE has more than doubled since the scheme Continue reading

Last term, Barry Comprehensive School Sixth Former Matthew Ireland took part in the British Physics Olympiad, which is the most challenging Physics competition in the United Kingdom.

Barry Comprehensive School’s successful Public Speaking Team, Mark, Rhys and Daley

Barry Comprehensive School are thrilled with a superb performance from their Public Speaking Team who won the first round of the ESU-Churchill Competition last term.

The talented trio consisted of: Mark Williams and Rhys Powell (Year 9) and Daley Chapman (Year 10), who faced tough competition against teams from St Cyres and Westbourne School for a place in the next round.

Christmas came early for some lucky boys in years 7, 8 and 9.  The now famous Barry Comprehensive School ‘In it to win it’ draw took place on the last day of term for the expectant students.  Raffle tickets were accumulated since September, with tickets being awarded for effort in class, excellent behaviour and high attendance.
