It’s late in August and, once again, a cohort of students arrived at Barry Comprehensive School to receive their GCSE results.

82% of students gained 5 or more A* – C grades, with high grades achieved across all subject areas, including Maths and English.

The Barry Sixth Form Valedictory Dinner is one of the highlights of the school calendar.

The evening brings students and their teachers together to celebrate the end of their secondary education. Over a hundred and fifty students and staff from both Bryn Hafren Comprehensive and Barry Comprehensive joined together to look back at their school days and indulge in a spot of nostalgia. Barry Comprehensive School has been successful in winning a prize in the Welsh Heritage Schools Initiative annual competition for the second year in a row.

The aim of the initiative is to encourage pupils across Wales to take a greater interest in their heritage, and invites all schools in Wales to enter heritage projects in a nationwide competition.  The project requires research, collection of materials, analysis and evaluation, and communication skills.  Continue reading

Year 9 hurdles

On Thursday 3 July, Jenner Park Stadium hosted the annual Barry Comprehensive School Sports Day in glorious sunshine.

Students from years 7, 8 & 9 spent the day competing in a number of athletic events varying from hurdles and sprints, middle distance jumps and throws with the tug-of-war added to encourage all students to be involved in their ‘House’ sports event.  Continue reading
