On 1st July, Barry Comprehensive School’s Team Sri Lanka 2017 will be departing for the Gampaha district of Sri Lanka.  Instead of heading for the beach, this group of sixth form students and teachers will be volunteering their time to teach in a local school and visit orphanages, a deaf and blind school and various other institutions that house vulnerable people.

Council Cabinet approves proposal to transform secondary education in Barry

On 6 March 2017, the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s Cabinet determined the proposal to transform secondary education in Barry by closing the existing single sex English medium Barry Comprehensive and Bryn Hafren Comprehensive schools and establishing two new mixed-sex, 11 – 18 English medium comprehensive schools on the current sites of Barry Comprehensive and Bryn Hafren Comprehensive schools from September 2018.

On 15th February 2017, the Duke of Edinburgh boys set out on a scenic walk in the wooden valley and limestone landscape along the waterfalls of the river Mellte.  Although the day started with torrential rain, the spirit amongst the 18 Year 10 students (led by Miss Rowe and accompanied by Mr Fitzpatrick, Mr Hawkins and Mrs Davies) was high, and the weather gods soon rewarded the enthusiastic group with drier conditions. Headteacher Gerard McNamara with the GCSE Mathematics double A* grade students

Barry Comprehensive School celebrated last week as almost half their Year 11 students passed their GCSE maths examinations early. The results, from ‘early-entry’ exams taken in November 2016, mean that 47% of students already have at least a C grade in one of the two new double maths GCSEs – with those remaining now on target to achieve or better this result in the summer.
